Tiramisu, meaning "pick me up," hails from the Veneto region of Italy, originating in the 1960s. It's made with coffee-soaked ladyfingers, mascarpone cheese, eggs, and sugar, topped with cocoa powder. 🍰☕

Ingredients
  

  • 6 large egg yolks
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup mascarpone cheese
  • 1 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 2 cup brewed espresso or strong coffee cooled
  • 1/2 cup coffee liqueur optional
  • 1 package ladyfingers about 24
  • Unsweetened cocoa powder for dusting
  • Dark chocolate shavings optional

Instructions
 

  • Prepare the Cream Mixture: In a large bowl, whisk the egg yolks and sugar together until pale and thick. Add the mascarpone cheese and mix until smooth.
  • Whip the Cream: In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream until stiff peaks form. Gently fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone mixture.
  • Prepare the Coffee Mixture: Combine the brewed espresso and coffee liqueur in a shallow dish.
  • Assemble the Tiramisu: Dip each ladyfinger into the coffee mixture for a few seconds, ensuring they are well-soaked but not soggy. Arrange a layer of soaked ladyfingers in the bottom of a serving dish.
  • Layering: Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the ladyfingers. Repeat with another layer of soaked ladyfingers and the remaining mascarpone mixture.
  • Chill: Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight.
